Worship

Our Vision for Worship

To engage believers to worship in spirit and truth (John 4:23).

Worship Beliefs

Worship is our personal and gathered response to God, in spirit and in truth, in appreciation for who He is and what He has done. It is expressed by what we say, sing and most of all, the way we live. The worship ministries at First Southern Baptist Church focus mainly on singing and playing instruments; however, we do not believe that playing and singing praise to God in a church service is, in and of itself, a complete worship experience. We do believe that singing praise to God is a command to all and is a powerful and correct way to respond to our God’s blessings.

Psalm 66:1-2 states:

"All together now—applause for God!
Sing songs to the tune of his glory,
set glory to the rhythms of his praise."

The messages that our songs communicate are central to how we lead the members of FSBC in worship. It matters little whether our music is loud or soft, fast or slow, performed by the entire band or a single voice...the heart of our music must and will always accurately reflect the message of the Scriptures. Though we believe our enjoyment of God brings Him glory and praise, truly authentic worship is not about what we want, need, or prefer. He is our joy and satisfaction, and we relish in directing all praise and glory to Him.

How Can You Get Involved?

The worship ministry of FSBC Topeka wants to help you to use your gifts and talents to their fullest potential in order to glorify God. To become part of the worship ministry you first must be a believer in Christ. In addition, you must be an attendee of FSBC weekly worship services and in a small group Bible study either on Sunday morning or sometime during the week. Please call the church to get information on small groups that are available.

So far so good? Now view the various available areas of service and prayerfully read through their descriptions and requirements. When you feel like God has given you direction, please click the “PDF Link” and fill out the form. You will be contacted by a representative of your chosen ministry as soon as possible.

Traditional Service Choir

This group requires no audition. If you enjoy singing, but don't feel you are a soloist, then this group may meet your service needs! The choir meets on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM in the sanctuary. They prepare choral presentations and seasonal musicals which are presented in the 8:30 AM service.

Christ First Worship Band

This is an auditioned group of instrumentalists who bring the contemporary worship experience to life. We are looking for people with a heart of service who are not seeking to perform, but instead simply desire to honor the Father by becoming a part of our worship leadership. The CFWB utilizes electric & acoustic guitars, electric bass, keyboards, piano, drums, auxiliary percussion, and is occasionally supplemented by wind instruments. The CFWB rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM.

Christ First Worship Band Vocal Team

The CFWB Vocal Team is the “front line” of the worship team for the 11:00 service. Like the CFWB, the Vocal Team is an auditioned group. Members of the Vocal Team should feel comfortable in their ability to lead the church in contemporary worship music and will be called upon to frequently sing solo leads as well as harmony vocals. The Vocal Team rehearses along with the CFWB on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM.

Youth Worship Band

The purpose of this group is to equip and disciple middle and high school students as future worship leaders. If you are a student musician interested in becoming part of the next generation of leaders - we want you! The band leads worship at “The Peak” (FSBC student ministry building) every Sunday morning for the youth groups. The instrument make up is similar to the CFWB, but all musical talents are considered. Rehearsal times are Sundays at 3:30 PM.

Children's Choir

The Children’s Choir ministry seeks to develop each child’s musical knowledge and abilities through meaningful and age appropriate musical experiences such as rehearsals, musicals, and other performances based around Scripture-centered material. We offer the Wee Praise choir (pre-K and K), the Music Makers (grades 1-4), and Young Musicians (grades 5-6). Children's choirs meet on Sundays at 6:00 PM.
